Flourish

Flourish Australia today is the result of a proud 60-year history. Known as RichmondPRA from 2012 to 2016, Flourish Australia’s origins stem from the successful amalgamation of two longstanding mental health organisations, the Richmond Fellowship of NSW and Psychiatric Rehabilitation Australia (PRA).

Our mission of working together for optimal mental health and wellbeing is the continuance of the dedication of our founding organisations. We continue the legacy of recovery-oriented community support, a fundamental commitment to improving outcomes for people with a lived experience of a mental health issue, and the pursuit of independence and a contributing life.

As an organisation we strive to ensure our professionalism and expertise are balanced by our personal connections. Flourish Australia reflects the good heart that everyone in this organisation has – they simply wouldn’t be here without it.

Lifeline

Lifeline

Lifeline is a national charity that provides 24/7 crisis support and suicide prevention services to people struggling with life’s challenges.

The organisation receives about a million requests for help each year – via the 13 11 14 (24/7) and nightly online Crisis Support Chat services –  which are answered by highly-skilled and compassionate Crisis Supporters based in 41 Lifeline Centres across the country.

The caring and non-judgmental assistance provided by these Crisis Supporters seeks to draw out strength, perspective and hope from those feeling overwhelmed or thinking about suicide.

With a request for help now received almost every 30 seconds, the charity has strong insights into the many complex and varied reasons why people experience crisis, from relationship breakdown and loss of employment, to violence, discrimination or the onset of mental health issues.

In addition to its lifesaving 24/7 crisis support services, the charity also conducts research via the Lifeline Research Foundation, undertakes various advocacy activities and delivers a range of training and face-to-face programs via its regional Centres.

Our aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of our people, resulting in resilient communities across the Murrumbidgee.Established in 2015 under the Australian Government’s Primary Health Network Program, MPHN is one of 31 PHNs in Australia with the objectives of increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of medical services for patients, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes, and improving coordination of care to ensure patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time.

This is achieved by:

  • undertaking population health planning and priority setting using reliable health data and evidence and on criteria that is open to public scrutiny
  • monitoring trends in service needs and utilisation, and areas likely to impact on the future health status of our communities
  • fund health services and activities to address population health needs and improve coordination of care
  • providing support and education to GPs and other health professionals to improve the management of at risk patient groups

PHNs are tasked with working across six key priority areas; mental health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, population health, health workforce, eHealth and aged care.

MPHN covers a land area of 124,412 square kilometres and services a population of 240,755. “Becoming a foundation member demonstrates MPHN’s commitment to developing strategies and actions that promote and facilitate inclusive practices within health service provision.

“As a commissioner of primary health services our partnerships with service providers, consumers and communities afford us the opportunity to lead by example and foster an environment of inclusivity of the LGBTI community in all areas of healthcare”, MPHN CEO James Lamerton said.

Reliant Healthcare

Reliant cares deeply about enabling people to really live their best lives. It is unacceptable that the LGBTI community in Australia should be experiencing poorer health and wellbeing outcomes than their non-LGBTI peers. Using our expertise to ensure the bar is raised by everyone in serving the LGBTI community will be an exciting outcome of Reliant’s involvement with PIHW.

PIHW is a fantastic opportunity for health and wellbeing organisations like Reliant to come together, in a structured and proven environment, to understand the challenges faced by the LGBTI community in accessing services, share knowledge and build on our expertise to ultimately provide inclusive services of which we can be proud.

We believe that inclusive service delivery is just good business. Just as any business should be focused on customer satisfaction, customer satisfaction within the LGBTI community absolutely must be enhanced. Central to this is understanding and addressing the health inequalities of our incredibly diverse LGBTI communities.

No two people are the same, and Reliant Healthcare wants to work with and learn from its peers through PIHW to deliver amazing tailored health care plans that serve our LGBTI clients.
