Pride in Health + Wellbeing and Pride in Sport have combined forces to bring you this panel.
We will focus on the importance of including LGBTQ young people in sport, and society more broadly, and the impact inclusion has on mental and physical health.
With the 2022 theme of “Still Me, Still Human” we will be joined by panellists who will share their stories of inclusion and how inclusion, belonging and active participation had a positive impact on young LGBTQ people.

Luke Smith (he/him)
Community Sport Professional and Youth Advocate
Luke has had nearly 7 years working and volunteering in sport-based youth advocacy spaces with a focus on Basketball as a tool for youth development. Heis currently the Development and Inclusion Officer for Darebin Basketball Association, with experience with Melbourne based Non-Profits such as Helping Hoops, and experience in Toronto, Canada in community outreach/coaching roles at MLSE Launchpad, Quantum Sports and Learning Association, True North Sports Camps and Northern Kings Basketball Academy.
As an ally to the LGBTQ community, Luke has a deep belief in sport as a tool for social inclusion and personal growth. He believes sport should be readily available to all young people regardless of social or economic barriers and he aims to continue contributing to and strengthening opportunities for young people of all backgrounds and identities to participate.
Emily Fox (she/they)
Proud2Play and Pride Cup Australia
Emily is an advocate based in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia. Emily specialises in developing inclusive environments with a focus on intersectionality and the LGBTIQA+ lived experience.
As an athlete Emily has been most active within Australian rules football, as a player, coach and committee member, and regularly consults within the sports industry regarding LGBTIQA+ inclusion. They are also an ambassador for Pride Cup Australia, advisory board member with Proud2Play and previously co-hosted Kick Like a Girl on RRR Radio Melbourne.
Dr Mara Schulz (she/her)
Allied Health Lead / Clinical Psychologist
Trans and Gender Diverse Health Services
Dr Schulz is a clinical Psychologist at Maple Leaf House, a gender affirmation clinic in Newcastle NSW. An ally to gender and sexuality diverse youth and a professional working directly with trans youth, Dr Schulz sees first hand the impact of inclusion on the health of young people, both physical and mental.
