HWEI: A Roadmap for LGBTQ+ Inclusive Health & Wellbeing Services

The Health + Wellbeing Equality Index (HWEI) acts as a roadmap to support health and human service organisations in embedding meaningful LGBTQ+ inclusion strategies. It outlines evidence-based criteria, updated every three years, that reflect best-practice insights from national and international research, ensuring relevance to both public and private health services.

For many organisations, the HWEI acts as a structured tool to guide service planning, policy development, and workforce capability-building. Some organisations use the index criteria as a self-assessment framework to strengthen LGBTQ+ inclusive practices, while others choose to submit their initiatives for auditing and benchmarking against sector peers. Participation in the submission process is entirely optional.

Organisations interested in accessing the HWEI criteria can request a copy of the submission documents and use them as a framework to drive meaningful LGBTQ+ inclusion by requesting submission documents.
