HWEI Submission: Choose the Stream That Fits Your Organisation

The Health + Wellbeing Equality Index (HWEI) is Australia’s leading benchmarking tool for LGBTQ+ inclusion in the health, wellbeing, and human services sectors. Designed to assess both workforce inclusion and LGBTQ+ service provision, the HWEI helps organisations measure progress, identify gaps, and implement meaningful change.

The HWEI Submission Process offers two options to ensure organisations can participate in a way that aligns with their capacity and stage in their inclusion journey.

Who Can Participate?

The HWEI is open to all organisations working in health, wellbeing, and human services, including:

  • Hospitals, Health Networks & Health Services
  • Community Health & Wellbeing Organisations
  • Aged Care & Disability Service Providers
  • Mental Health Services & Support Organisations
  • Allied Health Practices & Primary Health Networks
  • Government & Public Health Departments
  • Private Health Providers & Health Insurance Organisations
  • Medical Research Institutes & Public Health Bodies

Whether your organisation is at the beginning of its LGBTQ+ inclusion journey or already leading the way, the HWEI provides a structured pathway to assess, improve, and showcase your inclusion efforts.

Participation in the HWEI Submission process is exclusively available to all Pride in Health + Wellbeing members as part of your membership benefits.  

Pride in Health + Wellbeing has created a ‘Digital and Index Participation (Lite)‘ membership tier, designed for organisations who only wish to participate in the HWEI Submission process, National Survey, or both. This membership tier will also give organisations access to some online, member-only publications, factsheets, video library, and a LGBTQ+ inclusion eLearning module. 

Submission Options

📌 Foundation Submission – A starting point for organisations building their LGBTQ+ inclusion initiatives, providing a baseline assessment of inclusive service delivery. Please note: All Submitters must obtain Bronze Tier Status within this component in order to be eligible to submit an Advanced Submission.

📌 Advanced Submission – For organisations looking to benchmark at a higher level, demonstrate leadership, and work towards bronze, silver, or gold tier recognition.

To participate in each HWEI Submission, all organisations must register an Expression of Interest (EOI) using the link below, regardless of previous participation or scores. Upon registration, Pride in Health + Wellbeing will provide the appropriate submission criteria.

Submission Deadlines

🗓 Foundation Submissions: Accepted year-round.

Pride in Health + Wellbeing members can fast-track their Foundation Submission at any time between 1 June – 1 December.
🗓 Advanced Submissions:
📌 Deadline: 5:00pm AEDT Monday, 1 February 2027.
⚠ No extensions will be granted to ensure fairness in benchmarking.

Recognition & Results

  • Tier rankings (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) are announced at the Annual Pride in Health + Wellbeing Awards, where top-performing organisations are recognised for their commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion.
  • Formal results, including individual benchmarking reports, are sent directly to all submitting organisations after the awards. For Foundation Submissions that are fast-tracked and submitted between June and December, results are provided as soon as the review and marking process is complete.
